The 500th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America was celebrated in two big-budget, politically-correct films. This one is the better of two, which only goes to show just how bad the other one was. Hey, wait a minute, maybe "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery" was better after all. At least that film offered some unintentional humor. This one was an unremitting bore from start to finish. Sure, the photography is beautiful and Gerard Depardieau had the right look as good old Double-C, but the script and director Ridley Scott did nothing with either of those assets. A bore.
